Winter Festival! When: Sunday December 2nd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm Where: SSCY Centre (1155 Notre Dame Avenue) Who: All families! Activities for the day include: Photo booth with Santa/Mrs. Claus and Frozen Characters! Upon registration we will assign a time for you to visit the photo booth as we are aiming to keep this station a low-key environment! Times are offered in 10 minute intervals starting at 2:00pm! Let’s Talk Sibs!

Sunday November 25th, 1pm-4pm An event for the whole family focusing on siblings of children with differences.  Three programs will run simultaneously: Sibshops – for siblings aged 8-12. Siblings will meet other sibs, laugh, talk about having a sib with special needs, play great games, learn about services, and have fun. This is the first of 4 sessions.  Sibshops will continue in January, February and March. Parent workshop – an interactive workshop to discuss how to support siblings. Learn age appropriate ways to involve siblings, what to expect of typically developing siblings, and how to invite siblings into the process. Fun and games – RCC staff will have games and crafts for children with a disability and siblings younger than 8.   This is a free event. Snacks will be provided. Learn how to write a social story

We would like to invite school and daycare staff, as well as parents to attend this workshop to learn how to write social stories.  Add a powerful strategy to your toolbox. What is a social story? It is a written story that is used to help a child with learning challenges to improve his/her understanding of particular social situations. Social stories can be used to: Teach a new routine Teach the individual how to behave in a particular situation Provide comfort and re-assurance around difficult situations Presented by Lianne Belton, OT in the Relate Program at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children. Volunteers needed for a research study on the experiences of foster parents

For the research project: Understanding the Impact of Support Services for Manitoban Foster Parents Who Foster Indigenous Children with FASD Through Their Individual Narratives. The purpose of this study is to learn more about how foster parents access and feel about support services for their foster children with FASD. Who is Eligible? Manitoban Foster Parents who are fostering an indigenous child with FASD. What will you be asked to do? Be interviewed by the researcher for half-an-hour to an hour over the phone. All interviews are completely confidential, your name will not be shared. Join us for boccia in Brandon!

Intro to Boccia! Come out and play the game. All abilities welcome! You are invited to an intro to Boccia, (/ˈbɒtʃə/ boch-ə) a precision ball sport, similar to bocce. The sport is contested at local, national and international levels, by athletes with physical disabilities. It was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with other various abilities. In 1984, it became a Paralympic sport, and in 2008 was being practised in over fifty countries worldwide.   When and where? Fall Festival – October 21

We are excited to invite you to our eighth annual Fall Festival! Sunday, October 21, 2-4 at SSCY Centre. Activities will include: Pumpkin Carving Scarecrow Making – please bring some old child sized clothes to dress the newest addition to your family! Cookie Decorating Crafts Ghostly Games Photo Booth Spooky Corner – is it cooked spaghetti, or brains?! Harvest Dig – a search for delicious treats! Please feel free to come dressed up in your Halloween costumes! (There will be some outside activities weather-permitting, so please dress appropriately) This is a family event, and children of all ages are welcome. Join us for Friday Supper Club!

When? Friday October 12th, November 9th and December 7th 2018 (Registration signs you up for all three days!) Time? 6:00pm-9:00pm Where? SSCY Centre– 1155 Notre Dame Avenue For Who? Participants aged 12-21 and parent(s)/caregivers What? A chance for families to prepare meals & eat together with other families! We use the Guided Participation model to facilitate flexible thinking and decision-making while strengthening the parent-child relationship in a supportive environment! Cooks of all ability levels are welcome. We provide adapted cooking equipment as needed, including switch-operated devices. Snacks will be available upon arrival to tide us over before we start cooking! We will then be eating dinner around 7:30-7:45pm. Menus will be sent out a few days prior to each event day. For families of children and youth up to 21 interested in hands-on learning about available recreation opportunities!  Sunday, September 30, from 1:00 – 3:00, at SSCY Centre. Your family is invited to join us for our Recreation Opportunities Expo! A variety of Manitoban agencies that provide recreation and sport opportunities to children and teens with special needs will be in attendance, to share their programs and opportunities with you.
