Three Day Series: Programming for Social Development for Children with ASD or Intellectual Disability Social skills are one of the most commonly identified deficits in individuals with ASD, yet remain one of the hardest sets of skills to figure out how to teach. Many intervention approaches focus on imitation, modeling and reinforcement of discrete social skills however research indicates only marginal impact. With so many professionals studying social skills, why are we still getting it wrong? The first common mistake is looking at social skills as a rote list of skills to be taught. To be socially successful, one needs to know how to access and apply their social knowledge in constantly changing situations.    To date the Relate Program has taught over 300 Manitoban Families some of these very same teaching techniques and ideas.  We are now making this available to professionals. When? Friday January 18th, February 15th, and March 8th, 2019 (Registration signs you up for all three days!) Time? 6:00pm-9:00pm Where? SSCY Centre– 1155 Notre Dame Avenue For Who? Participants aged 12-21 and parent(s)/caregivers/respite workers What? An opportunity for families and teens to build relationships with and get to know other teens and families while cooking and sharing a meal together! We use the Guided Participation model to facilitate flexible thinking and decision-making while strengthening the parent-child relationship in a supportive environment!  Cooks of all ability levels are welcome. We provide adapted cooking equipment as needed, including switch-operated devices. Snacks will be available upon arrival to tide you over before we start cooking! We will then be eating dinner around 7:30-7:45pm. Menus will be sent out a few days prior to each event! Questions? Want to Register?
