Workshop: Taking a Developmental Approach to Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
February 20 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
One event on February 27, 2019 at 9:00am
This two day workshop series is presented by the Relate Program at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children, and is based on the Relationship Development Intervention(TM). The focus of the program is to help children to become more flexible in their thinking, to improve their ability to learn from a partner and their communication.
Day One will help participants understand the concept of dynamic intelligence: the ability to think flexibly and solve problems in real life situations. We will also explore the concept of guided participation: a natural, time-proven method of socially engaging and promoting development in children.
Day Two introduces participants to the essentials of becoming an effective guide. Topics covered include setting up active partnerships, programming in the zone of proximal development, becoming aware of our guiding actions, modifying the guide’s communication style and creating episodic memories. Opportunities for group discussion, individualized problem solving and practice will be provided.
Participants: These workshops are intended for professionals, educators, school or daycare teams, and family members
Cost: $60 for two full days
Location: SSCY Centre. Telehealth access available upon request
